This is my presentation on the exciting potential of VuGen Add-ins that I delivered at HP Discover 2012 (Las Vegas) on June 7th. The original PowerPoint file can be downloaded from SlideShare.

Presentation abstract:

HP has redesigned the latest version of VuGen from the ground up with a new, flexible architecture. For the first time, users will be able to add their own features to VuGen with custom add-ins. Join this session and learn the best techniques for developing these add-ins, with a demonstration and dissection of the VuGen Script Validator developed by JDS Australia. Whether you would like to develop your own add-in, or just increase your productivity with add-ins developed by the other members of the LoadRunner community, this is a session you shouldn’t miss.

My presentation seemed to be fairly well received, with a full room and lots of questions at the end. I was really pleased that one of the attendees, Chuck Williams, has already registered a domain name (www.vugenaddin.com), where he plans to post some of his creations. Hopefully I have prompted a few other people to start creating add-ins too.

When I get back to Melbourne in July, I am planning to do a few things:

  • Add an audio track to my presentation. Update: In progress – new microphone ordered.
  • Release an Add-in Manager for VuGen
  • Upload an example addin to GitHub

    Hi stuart
This presentation is really useful got some ideas to develop Add-ins or tools to enhance our vugen script. Am on my way to dig deeper and create new tools. Thanks for sharing.

HP just sent me the session survey feedback they received from the people who saw my presentation.

I’m touched by the nice things that people said. Everyone rated the session “extremely valuable” or “very valuable”, and the comments were great:

    • Speaker knows his stuff!
    • Only speaker I have seen applauded after a technical breakout!
    • Love the new VuGen and extensibility. HP is making great decisions with the direction of the performance testing tools

Hopefully this means that HP will invite me to speak at another HP Discover conference. Thanks for your feedback!

    Stuart,

Great presentation, answered a lot of questions I had about getting started. Thanks!

The first link on your last slide is broken, it is just missing a third “w” in the “www.” just thought I’d let you know.
